Bosavi: The Forgotten Rainforest
A journey into one of the last truly pristine places on Earth
Bosavi Crater
Mt. Bosavi rises out of the Gulf–Southern Highlands borderlands like a lost world. Its volcanic walls encircle a rainforest so vast and untouched that scientists call it one of the last unexplored ecosystems on earth. Within the crater lies a landscape that has remained hidden from the outside world for millennia, home to birds, mammals, and plants found nowhere else. Outside the crater stretches an unbroken expanse of primary forest that is still intact because of one remarkable decision: the Kasua people turned away the loggers over 30 years ago and protected their rainforest home without recognition or reward, until now.
Inside the crater, waterfalls plunge down sheer cliffs into jungle valleys. Rivers cut deep gorges through limestone. Birds of Paradise, echidnas and tree kangaroos still thrive here. To walk into Bosavi is to enter a place where time never really caught up. It is sacred ground to the Kasua, who trace their origin stories to this landscape and it remains one of the most pristine and least disturbed rainforests left on earth.
You’re Invited In.
The Kasua live in villages scattered along rivers and streams that wind through the lowland rainforest. They are skilled hunters, gardeners, and storytellers. Their lives remain tied to the forest that shelters them.
Visiting Bosavi is not simply travel into a remote place. It is stepping into relationship with people who have chosen to guard 300,000 hectares of forest against immense pressure. They do not open their world lightly. When you are welcomed in, you carry the responsibility to honor both the land and the people who have protected it.

Luxury, Redefined
There are no infinity pools here. No spas or polished resorts. What you find instead is something infinitely rarer. A helicopter lifts you over an unbroken canopy of green and sets you down in a world that has remained unchanged for thousands of years. Every detail of your journey is cared for with precision, from safety and logistics to comfort and cultural integrity.
This is not luxury in the usual sense. It is access to an experience that cannot be replicated anywhere else on earth.
Presence With Purpose
This journey is not just about where you go.
It’s about what you make possible.
The reality is that visiting Bosavi is not cheap, because it is not ethical to do it on a shoestring. Looking after guests requires the work of an entire community. From the weeks leading up to your journey to the moment you arrive, dozens of people are involved, building camps, preparing food, developing trekking routes, and ensuring your experience is extraordinary and respectful. We honor that effort by paying a substantial amount to the Kasua for their role in hosting.
In addition to the very real costs of simply reaching Bosavi, every visitor is also required to contribute a significant donation to the Kasua people. This is not a token gesture. It is a way to validate and strengthen their long-standing conservation commitments so the forest remains intact for future generations and so the Kasua themselves can live with dignity from their stewardship.
Sacred. Primal. PNG.
There are very few places left in the world where nature and culture remain this intact. Bosavi is one of them.
To stand in its forests is to feel what the world once was and what it might still be if we choose to defend it.
